INTRODUCTION TO THE SHOWCASE
The Master of Art Educational Technology (MAET) at Michigan State University (MSU) challenged me as as a math educator, leader and seasoned teacher. I learned how to develop my leadership role in school settings, how to find innovative ways to integrate technology in a purposeful manner in the classroom, and to understand the implications of technology on the learning process through theory and research. This page is a showcase of work that is organized into these three categories:
  • Leadership - Throughout the MAET program, I became more confident in my role as a leader in my profession. The coursework in this category reflects  the diverse ways I can engage my peers in opportunities to enhance their ability in using creativity and technology as components of learning in the classroom.
  • Teaching with Technology - I had many opportunities to explore innovative yet purposeful usage of technology in the classroom throughout this degree program. These are just a few of artifacts that represent how I integrated technology into the secondary math classroom.
  • Research - Prior to understanding the why, I could not fully grasp the how and when to integrate technology into educational settings.  With respect to theories of learning, this section explores coursework that allowed me to explore through data driven collaborative research and review of professional studies,  the importance of why and when to incorporate technology into the learning experience. I was then able to develop my vision of the role of technology in education.
Each artifact contains a brief summary of what it represents. If you would like to learn more about the courses that these artifacts were produced in, please feel free to visit my annotated transcript page.

Professional Development For Math Teachers
AGENDA
This Professional development agenda that I created introduces the Desmos Platform for Math Teachers at my Current school. Along with building lessons using the the Application, teachers walk away with connections to their pedagogy, utilizing the TPACK framework. This activity showcases my ability to organize execute a cohesive collaborative learning experience for math teachers.

Creative Toolkit
Website
I created this website after synthesizing my understanding how to inspire creative thinking in the classroom. Myself and other teachers can use this as an ongoing resource, and try some of the techniques  to  introduce creative thinking as a tool in various subject classrooms. It can further be developed to add teacher/student experiences with some of the techniques.

Online Hybrid Unit
Website
This website was created to allow students to experience a hybrid learning unit in Algebra II. Purposefully created for use at the beginning of the year. Students understand how backwards lessons and online applications are used in the classroom early on. Introduction video can be viewed here. The building of a cohesive unit allowed me to explore all the multi-faceted ways concepts could be introduced and explored in an online learning environment.

Makey Makey Prototype
Lesson Plan + DEMO VIDEO
This lesson was created so that students could have an interactive experience while expressing their understanding of angles in standard positions and their co-terminal angles with their peers. You can view the demo video here. The building of the prototype allowed me to practice how to remix and repurpose technology for the use in the classroom.

Desmos Lesson Plan
Lesson Plan + Desmos Activity
This lesson was created so that students could explore their understanding of the discriminant and how it is used in determining the behavior of the parabola and number of solutions a quadratic equation will have. They work in groups and express their understanding visually using the Desmos platform. You can view the Desmos Platform Activity here. The building of the activity allowed me to explore how various technology can enhance understanding by allowing new affordances than a traditional lesson.

Failure As a Learning Mode
Collaborative Website
This website was created to inform stakeholders about Failure as a learning mode. The collaboration with fellow educators Shannon Lutz,  Alyssa Rubrich & Kristine Washburn aimed to showcase through informative summaries, videos, and research, how and why to use failure as a learning mode. Through collaboration and the building of our multi-modal website, we were able to find evidence and resources to solve a rather wicked problem.

Literature Review
Research Paper
In this research paper I wished to find evidence of smart technologies and their affects on learning in the mathematics classroom. I summarize, synthesize and critically analyze fifteen sources in the field of education and smart technologies into organized topics such as: Evidence of increased achievement and Support for special groups. The research review allowed for me to develop a critical lens when finding evidence for or against generalized topics that can be regularly found in education.

Vision Statement
Essay
This essay introduces my vision of education and the role of technology as a leader in education. Utilizing my understanding of the culture of learning and Garner's Multiple intelligences, I discuss the role of technology as a tool for differentiation, modification and exploration. Furthermore, this statement includes a breakdown of strategic goals for stakeholders to move forward with the vision.  This initial statement can act as a sounding board when addressing technology as a leader in education, in future settings.
